I have just finished readingSeldom Seen, by my friend Sarah Ridgard. It’s her first novel. I enjoyed it so much I actually had to slow myself down while I was reading, and when I was coming towards the end of the book, I saved it for a particular moment so that the conditions would be perfect. A warm and sunny evening, sitting in the garden, a glass of rose to hand…it felt very important to savour the last chapter. You know that slightly bereft feeling you can get when you finish an absolutely delicious novel? I felt that coming over me, yet it was all good, the overriding sensation was one of great joy and a huge feeling of pride. I think I may have said it out loud: Well done Sarah!!
I was lucky enough to celebrate with Sarah at her launch party, and she presented me with a copy of her book before the evening started. And here it is:
Sarah’s launch party was in Norwich, at the Maddermarket Theatre bar. It was an extremely enjoyable and memorable night, with wine and cheese and chocolate brownies and a Seldom Seen cake. And a reading:
It takes a long time to write a novel and while I wouldn’t want Sarah to feel under any pressure, I have to say that I can’t wait for the next one.
Sarah’s publisher, Hutchinson, describes Seldom Seen as, ‘an intricate patchwork of secrets and discovery in a small Suffolk community’. Here’s the publicity shot:
The publication date is 2nd August (which happens to be Sarah’s birthday) and I am looking forward to seeing Seldom Seen on the shelves. I have already asked Foyles in St Pancras to stock it and Primrose Hill Books (where they were ahead of the game and already had it on order). For those of you who read Seven on Austerity, Sarah was one of the Seven authors.
Well done Sarah. Wishing you a very Happy Birthday. You are FAB!!
@SusieSteiner1 I loved your latest book and read it far too quickly. I’ve just given it to my mum and she is gripped. Thank you.
